Knitting On The Edge

Still some knitting edges to do on the two remaining sides.
Who needs paragliding, mountain climbing or throwing oneself out of a plain when you have knitting? You simply knit a huge shawl in the round, sew steeks and cut it open with a scissor. One wrong move and hundreds of hours are gone in one cut.

Cutting open between steeks.
I consider myself lucky every time it goes well. It is still quite crazy to knit something and cut into it afterwards.

But stranded knitting would be out of the question for jackets and shawls without it. This time I made three sewn steeks on top of each other just to be sure.

I want a big shawl and since this is my first one I had no idea about the actual size before cutting it open.

And that feeling of cutting the last stitch and lift it up - worth a million!!! Just what I wanted in size.

Now, I did not like the edge from the pattern. It does not give a proper frame to the shawl. And this kind of shawl without a pointy end was not to my liking.

So I started searching online and found a very skilled knitter in Denmark who shares all her knowledge even for free.

I did not have to invent everything and wondering if I knitted the edge right. With such a huge shawl it would be impossible to me. So thank you Anne for all your help.

So, last thing to do now: Pick up stitches along the two other edges and knit the last ones. I can see the end of the project and I already love it so much. What a fun knit. See about yarn and much more on my Ravelry page.

Everything will be all right in the end. If it is not all right, then it is not yet the end

Show Your Rainbow

We are having a rainbow month right now. You can read more about that here. Like rainbows in nature all rainbows created in some kind of craft should be out in the open for everyone to see.

So let us give blog land a huge makeover: Take those rainbows out and show them to the world. Let us all join in this wonderful adventure of the thought that every human being has the same right to be here as we have.

And no one is less or more important than we are. We were all meant to shine. And what could be better than to shine like a rainbow.

I made some mosaics from my knitted rainbows. How fun it is to see it all together and to have that playful feeling inside knowing I created something just as I wanted it to be.

The Birds Are Listening

I must be more than ready for spring right now. I simply had to make these polymer clay birds.
I am not completely satisfied with their shape though.

I have to work a bit on them because it seems easier to me making them a bit bigger. It has always been like that - and it does not bother me that much.

We all have areas we manage better. Bigger objects are obviously one of mine.

I am not that good on small objects - my fingers seems too big... But the birds seems to work anyway.

The colors are great and they look kind of fresh dangling under my ears.

I tend to make anything creative into several colors. Always nice to choose from when wearing something colorful.

I tried stamping on the orange pair and it came out fine.

The words can not be that long though. These birds are inspired by the ornaments I made for gifts.

And I must add: I am knitting a long sweater in addition to the birds making. I will show you later - right now the photos does not compliment the sweater.

Get out and spread your wings.
And make so much wind, that the ones who do not like your movements will be blown away

The February Rainbow Month

It is February and what could be better than a month to knit something in rainbow colors. Ann is hosting a knit along (KAL) in this month to make a statement under the Olympic Games regarding human rights.

And if you say rainbow I say knit something. What could be better than this. I wanted to tribute to make that statement. All finished projects will entered a competition in the end and we can win yarn and other goodies.

Anyway, I knitted bracelets for the KAL. Not a very large or complicated project. It is always fun to wear these and they are so warm and nice. They are knitted in Finull and Pt2 yarn and felted in the washer.

I added a little yarn to each of them to make more life to them when wearing.

So, join the KAL and knit or crochet something in rainbow colors. The KAL is both english and norwegian.

I am so happy to tell you that my birds are on their way to Gitte in Denmark and to Jan in the USA. You should check out their blogs where a lot of creativity is unfolding.

Thank you so much to everyone for entering my giveaway. I printed out all comments and had a winner drawn from the purples and the turquoises. Some of you had no contact information so I could not enter you in the giveaway. But you may have another chance when there is a new giveaway.

Congratulations to the winners. I hope you will like your little birds.

Going To Fly

Well, not me but these birds. Four years ago I started this blog. I actually never wanted to blog but played around in blogger and suddenly I was there. With my own blog. I was flying. I could share my work in polymer clay, and later knitting, with the whole world just the way I wanted.

A bit terrifying I must admit. But I do not regret it. It has been so much fun and I have met so many wonderful and skilled bloggers through my own blog. And a great benefit is also the histories and an artistic dairy with the things I create and love.

My blog has made me grow and all of you readers has blessed me with visits and comments. Since it all started with polymer clay I will give something back.

So, the two birds in the photo is up for a giveaway. They are made in polymer clay and antiqued with acrylic paint.

They are wired and stringed so you can hang the bird as an ornament. Or you can remove the string and use it as a pendant.

The turquoise one has the words Love and Hope on it. Those two words are really strong and it holds so much life and light in them.

The purple one has the words Dream and Live on it. They tell us to live our dreams and never ever give up on what is right.

There are no hoops to jump through (I do not like that). This is all free. But, you have to pay attention to these things:
Choose only one color
I will draw one winner from the purples and one from the turquoises
Place a comment with your preferred color (only comments with one color choice will be entered)
Leave email address if you do not have one in your profile. Winners will be contacted by email.
Winners will have 24 hours to respond on my email - after that a new winner will be drawn

The giveaway stays open until Saturday 8th February at 11.00 am CET.
